Show resume

What is love? What is at play between two different persons? Does love belong to a world where safety and comfort became the creed of our lives? Is love in danger?
In 2008, during the Avignon Festival, Alain Badiou (a famous french philosopher) had praised love. Caroline Ruiz seized this text with delight and came up with a challenge to bring it to life and make it accessible to all. She speaks in a simple and direct way, between a lecture and an intimate speech with the unobtrusive use of videos and music.
In the company of Arletty, Dalida and Cyrano de Bergerac, this “lecture about love” travels between an encounter, a declaration of love, Meetic, Plato, individualism, identity and difference, obstinacy, adventure, sceptics, risks and burning bodies…
“We all know that everybody has a passion for love stories. We must wonder why they are so fascinating.” The performance is funny and right, and Caroline Ruiz took up that challenge brilliantly.

“ With a direction where the projected lights on her danced like dreamlike fireflies, a metaphor for incandescent burning love, where the intimate setting echoes like a private invitation to enter her bubble , Caroline Ruiz gracefully and naturally give us – as if Alain Badiou‘s rich and complex thought went without saying for her – a revitalizing message. Her invigorating performance makes us crave for more. An exquisite invitation to “risk” love, which can only seduce us.” Bruit du OFF thunderbolt 2017 (coup de foudre du Bruit du OFF 2017).
« A talented Caroline Ruiz achieved a top-notch performance, cheered by audience. Bravo l’artiste.” La Provence (newspaper).
“To carry and convey philosopher’s words without corrupting them: a challenge Caroline Ruiz cleverly took up. Another way to speak of love, which is very timely. An artistic commitment to welcome!” Revue Marseillaise du Théâtre.

Hangar Palace became famous thanks to its young public triptych about family : Peau d’Ane (Donkey’s skin), Avaler des Grenouilles (to swallow frogs) and Cendrillon, Fille d’Aujoud’hui (a nowadays Cinderella). A page is turned with Eloge de l’Amour : opening up to contemporary texts, favouring a direct speech with the audience and being able to act everywhere. This is how Eloge de l’Amour was performed at the ATP in Alès, At the Théatre Liberté In Toulon (a national theatre), and at the French Institute in Casablanca (Morocco), but was also performed in a flat, at a village square and … in a hair salon!
