"I get sick every time you come around. Then I get sick when you leave"

"Fool for love" is an emotional love story, set in a cheap motel on the edge of the Mojave desert, a modern American "Wild West", where strangers are always passing through.
May and Eddie, two frantic, amazed but passionate lovers attempt to resolve an ancient toxic love. But emotional scars from a disturbed family history, fueled by booze and addiction keep them trapped in a vicious circle that's eating them alive.
All of this takes place under the watchful eye of an old ghost, a mysterious but ever-present stranger.

"Fool for Love" is one of Shepard's greatest plays : an emotional ride through a poisonous love story, set in a dying American West.

Compagnie du Vingt-Trois
Coproduction: La technique

Created in 2018, the Compagnie du Vingt-Trois was born in Paris from the encounter between Dannie-Lu Carr, a British stage director, and Julie Zeno, a French actress, and their desire to work together on a production that would allow them to combine their artistic sensitivities.

The choice of "Fool for Love" (1983) by Sam Shepard, a major figure of the modern American theater, was an obvious and genuine one. The play raises the questions of addiction, dysfunctional relationships and the slow disappearance of the Old West, a certain vision of America and of its wild dreams.

By its very foundation and composition, the Compagnie du Vingt-Trois embeds itself naturally in today's modern and international theater. Aside from the decision of performing the play in its original language, France, Switzerland, Great-Britain and the United States shape the diverse cultural background of the artistic crew.

The Compagnie du Vingt-Trois is in co-production with La Technique productions.
